Ingleton Folk Weekend - Comic song Contest

This year saw the introduction of a comic song contest, which was held, at the Hill Inn on Sunday afternoon.  It was a resounding success. There were 9 contestants singing songs ranging from original material, music hall, to traditional folk music.

The contest was followed by an amazing open music session, consisting of approximately 30 musicians and singers, which was witnessed by a packed audience.

The event was the brainchild of Martin Smith of Galloway Folk based in Gatehouse of Fleet. Stuart and Jacqueline proprietors of  the Masons Dog Oil sponsored the event and the afternoon was hosted by the Mooncoyn .  The Hill Inn was a perfect setting for the event and all agreed the Comic Song contest should become a regular event at the Ingleton Folk Weekend.

Frank Birkett won the event with his rendition of Knocking Nelly. He was closely contested by Muppett who performed the Iika Moor Rap. Prizes were donated by Stuart and Jacqueline. Along with the prize money Frank was awarded the first ever platter engraved to commemorate his success.

Photographs of the event are available in the Competition Gallery  - Click the picture to download the high resolution version, and then right-click the downloaded picture to save (Gallery should take 30 seconds to load using a dial up connection).

A reet good do was had by all!  Thanks to all who took part and supported the event.
