Lark Rise

In June 2005, Mooncoyn joined amateur theatre group Living_Image in a promenade production of "Lark Rise" by Keith Dewhurst.

The play is based on Flora Thompson's popular "Lark Rise to Candleford", an account of a country childhood in the 1880s in a community whose traditional way of life was about to disappear.  The audience accompanies the people of the hamlet from dawn to dusk on the first day of the wheat harvest.  Hard work and poverty are a constant reality for most of them, but they know how to enjoy their rare leisure to the full.  Our songs help to capture the spirit of that long-gone world, and reflect on change with its gains and losses.

The play was staged on Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th June in Saint Helen's Church Square and grounds, Churchtown near Garstang, Lancashire. This picturesque location was an idyllic setting for "Lark Rise".
